OUR HISTORY

In 1999, four former students of Collège Regina Assumpta (CRA), Marguerite Esther Chevalier-Mompremier, Grace César Achille, Réséda Célestin and Geneviève Casseus, got together in Florida and created the “Fédération des Anciens de Regina Assumpta (FARA)”.

They launched a crusade to reinforce the school’s mission, which is providing to others the same opportunities they had. Year after year, they devoted endless time to motivate people in their communities to join their noble cause through their fundraising events.
FARA is legally registered as a 501©(3) in the state of Florida.

VISION STATEMENT

FARA’s goal is to become one of the best non-profit organizations to foster educational support in Haiti and abroad.

OBJECTIVES

Bring former students together to create a community of alumni and maintain a connection with their alma mater.

Foster a support group where Collège Regina Assumpta (CRA) alumni can meet to talk, discuss, entertain and help each other in every possible way, through both good and bad times.

Support CRA in providing scholarships to both under-privileged children whose families are unable to afford tuition at reputable institutions like CRA in Haiti and students with outstanding academic achievements.

Assist CRA in properly training Haitian youth on how to apply the knowledge acquired in school beyond the classroom.

Promote and support education and educational activities throughout Haiti and the state of Florida .

Award scholarships to South Florida students in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

COLLÈGE REGINA ASSUMPTA (CRA) – ITS HISTORY

In 1955, Monsignor Albert Francois Cousineau, the Bishop of Cap-Haitien, Haiti, conceived the dream for an educational institution that would become a reality three years later.

Originally known as “College Monseigneur Cousineau,” this venture operated out of a private home in the neighborhood of “Carénage”. The rented space served as the locale where the inaugural 83 students attended classes under the direction of four religious of Saint Croix in 1958.

Shortly thereafter, construction of a permanent school began on land donated to the cause by Haiti provisional President Daniel Fignolé. In 1959, the school relocated to its new location and was renamed “College Regina Assumpta” (CRA), and in November of 1974, CRA was accredited and licensed by the Département de l’Éducation Nationale to function as a private school.

In 1975, as a response to a growing demand of youths seeking a quality education, an annex building was built to expand the school’s footprint. Down the road, in an effort to optimize the use of its resources and further improve its positive socio-educative impact, CRA restructured its organizational model in 1993 to keep up with the ever-changing times. Additionally, in 1995, ” la Faculté des sciences de l’Éducation de Regina Assumpta” (FERA) was created.

FERA is dedicated to prepare competent teachers and to offer more modern courses such as Computer Science. More and more opportunities continued being offered following the opening of the College Regina Assumpta Junior in 1996, a venture which featured the construction of additional annexes to house new student services, such as counseling, a school store, a cafeteria, a well-equipped library, a laboratory and an audio-visual studio. 

College Regina Assumpta began as a simple dream, and today has developed to become a center for all levels of education – the Juniorat at the elementary level, the College Regina Assumpta (CRA) at the secondary level and FERA at the university level.

Throughout the years, the college has been consistent with its philosophy and mission – to guarantee an academic, cultural, spiritual, physical and social education that will leave an everlasting imprint on all students. This educational body is still under the direction of the Sisters of Saint Croix and their remarkable staff and faculty members.

Today, it becomes more difficult for ordinary citizens in Haiti to afford the school’s tuition. In addition, the institution is presently striving to better equip and adequately prepare their students for our computer and technologically driven society. Mindful of such difficulties and challenges,
FARA was created to help their cause.
